Robert Lynn Gardner, 95, of Toledo, passed away peacefully August 25, 2017 at the Ebeid Hospice Center.
Robert was born December 15, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Harold B. and Elsie (Schaefer) Gardner. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, the late Margaret Jane Gardner.
Robert was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy, Valley Forge PA. Following Robert’s graduation, he enlisted in the Army as a Lieutenant in the Armored Division in June, 1943 until his Honorable Discharge from active duty in 1946.
During WW II Robert served in the Asian Pacific theater earning recognition for his service being awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Occupation Medal (Japan).
Robert was active in his church, Little Flower, serving in the men’s club and St. Vincent DePaul Society organizations. In his senior years his greatest enjoyment was playing golf in the Little Flower Golf League.
Surviving Robert are five children: Robert, Hal (Maureen) Gardner, Mari (Jim) Palmer, Sarah Gardner, Debe (Daryl) Gruver; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Gillian, Adam, Evan, Corey, Alexander, Daniel; great grandchildren, Amrys, Noah, Brooklyn, Sarah Louise, Grayson and 21 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Weston, and sister, Jane.
Private interment will take place at Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River, Ohio. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date at Little Flower Catholic Church, where Robert was a member.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in care of Little Flower Catholic Church, 5522 Dorr Street, Toledo, Ohio 43615

Margaret was born March 26, 1921, in South Fork, PA to the late Alexander and Sara G. (Dimond) Campbell. She was married to Robert L. Gardner April 30, 1949. Margaret was a graduate of Carlow University, Pittsburgh, PA. She served as a bio-chemist in the United States Navy during World War II, after the war she became a home economics teacher in Pittsburgh and New Castle, PA. Margaret's love of reading, music, and sewing, were in addition to her talent as an accomplished watercolor artist belonging to the Westlake Watercolor Society of Westlake, OH. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and great-grandmother, and overall wonderful woman who was admired by all and will be deeply missed. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 63 years, Robert; five children, Robert, Hal (Maureen) Gardner, Mari (Jim) Palmer, Sarah Gardner, Debe (Daryl) Gruver; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Gillian, Adam, Evan, Corey, Alexander, Daniel; great-granddaughter, Amrys; sister, Sarah Louise, and 21 nieces and nephews. W.A. Griffin, aged 33, river pilot for the past 10 years died in Marine Hospital in Memphis Sunday. Mr. Griffin, formerly lived in Newport and operated boats on the White River and continued to call Newport his home after living here and operated boats on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday in charge of the Rev. Chas. F. Wilkins and the Rev. A.A. Pearce from the home of his sister, Mrs. W.J. Bandy of East Newport with burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery in charge of Frank Leach, undertaker.
Mr. Griffin was born at Maynard, Ark.
In addition to Mrs. Bandy, he is survived by another sister, Mrs. Fern Miller, West Helens, his mother, Mrs. Nevada Griffin, West Helena; five brothers, Harry, of Paducah, Kentucky, P.J. of Rockport, ILL, A.L. of Helena, Raymond of Shreveport, LA. *Other brother's name was cut off. W.A. Griffin, aged 33, river pilot for the past 10 years died in Marine Hospital in Memphis Sunday. Mr. Griffin, formerly lived in Newport and operated boats on the White River and continued to call Newport his home after living here and operated boats on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.

Mrs. Edith Victoria Griffin Strickland, 95, died Tuesday, May 23 at Diversicare of Fulton, KY.
She was retired after serving almost 30 years as administrative assistant at First Christian Church in Paducah, KY.
Born in Clarendon, AR to Paul Jackson and Ethel May Henderson Griffin, Sr., Vicki grew up in Paducah and Brookport, IL, graduating from Brookport High School in 1940.
She attended Southern Illinois Normal School (now Southern Illinois University) before moving to Washington, D.C. in 1941 to work for the US Navy Department. She completed a public administration fellowship program at American University and continued working for the Navy overseeing civilian personnel in the DC area. She married Larry Ray Strickland in October 1948, and they moved to Paducah in 1950.
She was a member at First Christian Church and an associate member of Fulton First United Methodist Church. She was a 50 year member of the Clara Henrich Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron, District Deputy Matron, and Grand Chaplin of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Larry Griffin Strickland, brother Paul Jackson Griffin, Jr., and sisters Ramona Dye and Ethel Wyatt.
She is survived by her daughter Victoria Anne Strickland Seng of Union City, TN; daughter-in-law Lisa Williams Strickland of Ellenton, FL; three granddaughters Lisa (Michael) Maas of Lexington, KY, Victoria Leigh Seng and Holly Anne Seng of Union City, and two great grandchildren; Caleb and Caroline Maas of Lexington.
Graveside services will be held at 11AM Friday in the Massac Memorial Gardens in Metropolis, IL. Visitation will be held at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton, KY from 5-8PM Thursday.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 415 Audubon Drive, Paducah, KY 42001.
