Harald III Ingi "the Young" (?) Earl of Orkney was born circa 1155.1
Harald III Ingi "the Young" (?) Earl of Orkney died in 1198.1
He was Earl of Orkney: [Ashley, p. 455] HARALD III INGI (the YOUNG) earl of Orkney ?1195-8. The grandson of Kali (RAGNALD III) through his only daughter Ingrid. At some date unknown Harald was invested with his grandfather's share of Orkney from Magnus V of Norway and of Caithness from WILLIAM THE LYON of Scotland. This was most likely when Harald came of age. His birth date is not known, though it was probably in 1155 or 1156, so he may have become ear! in 1174 or soon after. However, he never pursued his claim to the territories and revenues of Orkney, remaining in Caithness; and when Magnus died in 1184, Harald visited his successor, Sverre, to have the grant of earldom reaffirmed. However, we do not know if Harald visited Sverre immediately, and it is more likely it did not happen until after the insurrection of Sigurd Magnusson in 1194, and may have been at the same time as HARALD II sought his pardon. This means it was probably soon after 1195 that Harald the Young sought to claim his inheritance, only to find that Harald the Old refused. He gathered together a fleet at his base in Wick, but Harald the Old wrong-footed him and descended on Wick with his own fleet. Harald the Young was killed in the ensuing battle, along with his brother and closest relatives. He was, in effect, the earl who never ruled. between 1195 and 1198.1

      ; Per Genealogics:
“According to an old chronicle, Gilchrist received the hand of the king's sister in marriage for the great services he had performed to the crown. She, however, proved unfaithful to her marriage vow and he caused her to be put to death. This murder so enraged William 'the Lion', King of Scots, against Gilchrist that he dismantled his castles, confiscated his estates and banished him from the kingdom.
“The earl took refuge in England, but in the treaty between William and the English King Henry, it was stipulated that neither should shelter the other's enemies. So the exiled noble was obliged to leave England, and returning to Scotland with his two sons he shifted from place to place in poverty and misery. One day they were seen by the king in the neighbourhood of Perth, disguised as farmers. On the approach of the king they left the road to prevent discovery. Their evident wish to avoid him roused William's curiosity and he had the three men brought before him. In response to the king's enquiry who they were, Gilchrist knelt down before him and in very moving terms told him of their lamentable condition. William was so affected by the story that he not only pardoned the earl but restored him to his former honours and estates.”.2

; Per POMS: "Handbook of British Chronology, 499: Gilchrist was the younger son of Gille Brigte, earl of Angus (d.×1189), and succeeded his elder brother, Adam, as earl, upon Adam's death before 17 March 1199. Gilchrist died before 11 April 1206. Also had brothers Gilbert, William and Angus."

Magnus II (?) 4th Earl of Angus was born circa 1179.1
Magnus II (?) 4th Earl of Angus died in 1239.1
He was Earl of Orkney: [Ashley, pp. 541,543] MAGNUS II earl of Orkney 1231-39. Though he succeeded JOHN (I), their family relationship is unclear. Magnus was the son of the 4th earl of Angus, and it has been presumed that his mother was one of the sisters of HARALD III, though this is conjectural. It was during his earlship that the relationship between the kings of Scotland and Norway began to heat up over the possession of the Western and Northern Isles. Magnus seems to have kept a remarkably low profile, typical of the attitude of the Orcadians at this time who were fiercely independent and tried not to get involved in external affairs. Magnus was probably about fifty at the time he inherited the earldom and so was approaching sixty when he died. between 1231 and 1239.1
