Death     16 Sep 1398 (aged 57–58), Betchworth, Mole Valley District, Surrey, England
Burial     St Martin Churchyard, Dorking, Mole Valley District, Surrey, England
Sir Anthony Browne, father of Sir Robert Browne, father of Sir Thomas Browne of Betchworth Castle, near Dorking, Surrey matching with the descendants of the grandson, George as the heirs of Betchworth Castle with surviving burial records at Dorking, St Martin.
The registers at Dorking begin from 1538.
Birth year is approximate with evidence for the date of death originally suggested to confirm.
Note: An attempt had been made to link the Browne family of Betchworth Castle with the Browne family of Stamford in Lincolnshire, a long way from Dorking and with a completely different coats of arms. The photos of the church at Stamford need to be removed. There are still memorials shown for the earlier Browne of Betchworth Castle shown at Stamford and Anthony has been detached from those.
Of the family and its coat of arms, Surrey County Council notes:
"BROWNE of Betchworth Castle in Dorking, from 1447 to 1690. Baronet, Jul 7, 1627. Extinct 1690. Descended from Sir Anthony Browne, KB, from the time of Henry IV, whose grandson Sir Thomas Browne, Under Treasurer to Henry VI, (d.Jul 20, 1460), married Eleanor, daughter and heir of Sir Thomas Arundel, (d.1431), of Betchworth Castle. Sir Stephen Browne, Lord Mayor of London, 1438, was a younger son of Sir Anthony, from the time of Henry IV.
