; NB: I have based my listing of the ancestors of Richmond (I) TERRELL "The Immigrant", and his brothers William, Robert and John, on the revised genealogy published by the Terrell Society of America (TSA - available on its website). The TSA genealogy is based on the work done by Joseph Henry Tyrrell [1910], Emily Dicken [1952], and O. F. Brown [1982] with elaborations and additional research by TSA contributors.
Tyrrell [1910] posited a genealogy tracing the American TERRELLS from Richard "The Immigrant", back to William the Conqueror and to much earlier English lines. This lineage depended on linking the immigrant Tyrells to the noble British Tyrell family of Thornton Hall. Dicken [1952] accepted the early lineage posited by Tyrrell [1910] and added considerable new details about the American side of the family. Brown [1982] effectively disproved Tyrrell's proposed lineage and any link to the Tyrrells of Thornton Hall, Bucks, and traced the American immigrants back only a few generations to a TYRRELL/TERRELL family of Hegbourne and Reading, Berkshire. Barnhill [1934] began the discussion of the TERRELL lineage with Richmond "The Immigrant", and ignored earlier generations. Over the past several decades, the TSA has started from the revised ancestry proposed by Brown [1982] and built on that, publishing their revised "Proposed English Pedigree of some Immigrant TERRELL's".
Tyrrell [2001] has also added some additional conclusions on the Hagbourne roots of Richmond "The Immigrant" which the TSA has incorporated into their outline. Tyrrell concluded: "Regardless of whether you trace to Richmond, William, or Timothy TERRELL of Va, it appears that the lineage ends with Robert & Agnes of West Hagbourne in Berkshire, no part of Oxfordshire. The long accepted lineage through William to Thronton manor is proven to be false speculation..."

He was Per Dicken [1952:17]: "We found that in 1656-1657 he was a groceryman in London when his brother Robert stopped with him after his return voyage from Virginia." in 1656/57 at London, City of London, Greater London, England.1
William Terrell immigrated before 1665 to Virginia, USA; Per Dicken [1952:17]: "From the statement Richmond made in the deed to Henry Wyatt, it seems that William was in Virginia in 1665 when he sold the 100 acres Richmond had given him. He was again named as a passenger to Virginia in 1667 which suggests that he may like his brother Robert have carried on some trade with the Virginia colonists, either for himself or for Robert."1 Per Dicken [1952:18]: "Though Robert and Richmond were mentioned several times in the fragmentary records now existing, there is nothing regarding William after 1667, when he was brought over as a apassenger for the third or fourth time. He did not sign the grievance in 1677 that was signed by Richmond, Jr."...Robert Tyrell in his will did not leave anything to his brother William, but instead left ten poinds to nephew William Terrell, son of brother Wiliam, and five pounds to niece --- Terrell, daughter of brother William."11 He was was mentioned in a land transaction by Richmond I Terrell Sr. on 8 February 1670 at Land Grant, New Kent Co., Virginia, USA, Per Dicken [1952:14-15]: "...the second grant to Richmond Terrell, recorded in Land Book 6, p. 369, dated 8 day Feb 1670...The tract contained six hundred acres lying upon branches of Chicka hominy Swamp...for the transportation of twelve persons, among them was William Tyrrell.12

; NB: I have based my listing of the ancestors of Richmond (I) TERRELL "The Immigrant", and his brothers William, Robert and John, on the revised genealogy published by the Terrell Society of America (TSA - available on its website).
