"Allen Laird, aged 88 years, and life-long resident of the Spartansburg community, died at his home about a mile north of the borough at 2 pm, yesterday. He is survived by his second wife and a son, Guy Laird at home, two other sons, Ralph of Union City and George of Jamestown, NY, a daughter, Miss Gertrude Laird of Erie and a stepson, Claire Roesch, who lives in the Spartansburg vicinity. The body was prepared for interment at the Torrey funeral home in Spartansburg where services will be conducted at 2 pm, Sunday with interment in Rose Hill cemetery." (Titusville Herald, Oct 23, 1937, p.2)
