     Jeremiah Thomas Dennis, indicating he was born in Illinois but with an address then in Delaware County, Iowa, enlisted at Hopkinton, Iowa, on August 7, 1862 in Company K, 21st Iowa Infantry. He was discharged for disability on January 21, 1863, at Houston, Missouri. He then enlisted on December 21, 1863 in Company B, 62nd Illinois Infantry, as a new recruit. He was later transferred to the 62nd Illinois (Consolidated) Infantry from which he was mustered out on March 6, 1866. On February 7, 1890, on the letterhead of the San Antonio Republican Club, Texas League Club No. 12, he wrote to the Iowa Adjutant General indicating he had lost his discharge papers from the 21st Iowa Infantry and that his enlistment in the Illinois regiment was "accredited to Iowa." On September 9, 1908, on the letterhead of the Department of Texas Grand Army of the Republic a similar request was made on his behalf that also indicated Jeremiah was then drawing a federal pension under Certificate No. 815,663. His military and pension files may be obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, D.C. Forms are available online.

Fremont Daily Times, February 12, 1897, p. 4, col. 2: J. F. Hatcher, aged 64 years, died last evening at his home in West Side addition at 8:30 o’clock. The deceased has not been enjoying good health for a year. He had an attack a few days ago, similar to a stroke of apoplexy, and grew rapidly worse until the end came. The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon from the family home at 2 o’clock.
