BIRTH 27 Jun 1934, Taloga, Dewey County, Oklahoma, USA
DEATH 4 Oct 2018 (aged 84). Texas, USA
One June 27, 1934, she was born in a dugout near Taloga, Oklahoma adjacent to the Canadian River. Poetically, “taloga” is a Native American word meaning “beautiful valley” or “rocking water”. She was one of the younger of many brothers and sisters born to James Leonard Aishman and Bertha Bear Aishman. She grew up hoeing and picking cotton, vegetables and fruit barefoot in the hot sands of a 160 acre farm her parents bought near Blair, Oklahoma. That farm and their labors was all that supported her parents and more than a dozen children including at times a few of her cousins.
At the age of 16 while caring for her brother’s young children, she met Sammy Lee Pratt at First Assembly of God Church in Panhandle, Texas. He was truly the love of her life, and they married while she was still 16 with her father’s consent. They raised their family in Panhandle, building two different houses themselves while living in them. Pauline, Sammy and their three children moved to Amarillo in 1969. They were happily married for more than 51 years until Sammy went to be with the Lord in October, 2002.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, by Sammy, and by their beloved young daughter Angela, “the angel that God Loaned us,” as she used to say. Pauline is survived by her oldest son, Sammy Lee Pratt, Jr. and his wife Priscilla. She is also survived by her son, James Leroy Pratt of Woodlawn, Tennessee. She is also survived by her granddaughter Cynthia Pauline Brundage and her husband Ryan Brundage of Plainview, Texas. Pauline’s great-grandchildren are Jordan Hunley, Angela Hunley, Ryan Brundage, Jr., and Denessa Brundage Reyes. Her great-great-granddaughter, of who she was so proud, is Arianna Reyes.
Pauline’s father, James Leonard Aishman was so proud of his newborn daughter back in 1934. On her handwritten birth certificate James wrote of the birth location, “in a dugout” and of her condition “alive and perfect”. For the signature of the physician or midwife he wrote “the Lord is our healer”. Pauline loved the Lord, her husband and her family above all else. Of course we know we are all born alive, physically, but spiritually we are dead. But through our faith in our Lord Jesus and His death on a cross, we are truly alive and truly perfect.
My mom is now with my dad, my sister and my beloved grandparents, and is truly perfected by Jesus Our Lord. To my granddad, James Aishman, I say “Amen, Grandpa, Amen!”

Mary Hoyle was born between 1761 and 1770; The elderly woman in the 1840 census is listed as aged 70-79 (i.e., born 1761-1770.)1 She married John Henry Whittenberger Sr., son of Michael Henry Michael Whittenberger and Anna Maria Benedict, circa 1781 at Lincoln Co., North Carolina, USA.2
; 2 Mar 2019: I have identified John Henry (aka John George Henry) as the father of Catherine based on a positive link shown by Ancestry.com's "ThruLines" DNA matching tool which shows a positive match between my DNA and that of others linked to Catherine, and showing her father. See attached images.
Based on this DNA match, I have added tentative ancestors for Catherine back two generations.
15 Aug 2021: New results on Ancstry's ThruLines show possible links to the HOYLE family and indicate that the mother of Catherine and wife of John Henry Whittenberg was a Mary Hoyle. (See attached image). However, I have not been able to find enough data to support the link for the moment. the birth dates given on various family trees for Mary Hoyle range from 1739 to 1765.
There is a page posted on Ancestry from an unidentified book. This discusses "the daughters of Peter Hoyle" and says "Mary Hoyle, the daughter of the pioneer, married John Henry Whittenburg. I think the Whittenburges lived in N. C. till at least one of their daughters was grown up..." There is no other information to confirm that this is the same John Henry Whittenburg/Whittenberg who was the father of Catherine (Whittenbarger) Vaught.

Virginia, Marriages, 1740-1850

Pike County, Missouri Deaths, 1878-1917
Siblings of Lemuel included: twin Rolla Nivens Wells b. 1807, Charles Claypole Wells b. 1809, Ephraim Owens Wells b. 1811, Alivia Davidson Wells b. 1813, James Dudley Wells b. 1815, Rachel McMechen Wells b. 1818, David McMechen Wells b. 1820.
Lemuel and his brother, James Dudley, had moved to Missouri from the family estates in Wells Bottom before the deaths of their parents. They each inherited $10,000, rather than portions of the Wells Mansion and farmlands, according to the Will of their father. Following are the relevent portions of that Will:
"Will of Charles P. Wells
Marshall County Will Book 1, Page 226.
I, Charles P. Wells of the County of Marshall and State of Virginia being in sound mind but of feeble health do make and publish this as being my last will and testament...
... To have and to hold the same for and during her natural life and at her death I desire that the personal property, or so much thereof as may remain, to be sold and the proceeds thereof to be paid to my-sons Dudley and Lemuel Wells as part of Ten Thousand Dollars to each of them.
My five servants, above designated, I desire to divide at the death of my wife between my sons Rolla N. and Charles C. Wells my five servants above designated - or they may sell them to my sons Lemuel and Dudly Wells as further payment upon the above specified sum - but I do not desire them to be sold at public sale...
...Fifth - I will, devise and bequeath to my sons Lemuel M. Wells and John D. Wells the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars each to be paid as hereinafter provided.
Sixth - I desire that the net proceeds of the rents of the above lands bequeathed by me to Rolla N. Wells, Charles C. Wells and lands Rachel M. Austin, after the payment of taxes and keeping said in good repair, shall be put at interest by my executors annually until it shall amount to a sufficient sum to pay the bequests to my sons Lemuel M- and James D. Wells but I further desire that said Lemuel M. and James D. Wells shall receive the net proceeds of the rents of the lands aforesaid annually provided, that, they, of the rents of the lands aforesaid will pay the interest but not otherwise...
Eighth - I desire that Charles C. Wells shall sell at a proper time a lot of cattle owned by Charles C. Wells and myself, and pay over my half of the money to Lemuel M. and James D. Wells as a portion of the Ten Thousand Dollars allotted to each one of them...
...Eleventh - I desire that all money that I might have on hand at my death - that my executors pay it over in equal portions to my sons Lemuel M. and James D. as a portion of the Ten Thousand Dollars bequeathed to each of them."
Lemuel and brother James Nivens married sisters Eliza Ann and Drusilla McMahon.
Per Will of brother, Charles Claypool Wells (who had no children), the proceeds of the Wells family farm were to be divided bewtween children of Lemuel, and children of brother James Dudley and sister Rachel Wells Austin.
Researching: In "WILLS" household, 1870, are Jennie Well/17/GA/servant, and Jobe Wills/8/MO. In household 1880 are Jennie Wells/15 and Jobe Wells/14, reportedly children of Lemuel and 2nd wife. Are these the same children with incorrect ages? If not, where was the daughter Jennie in 1870?
Alert: re son Charles Prather. Lemuel's brothers Rolla Nivens and James, also named sons Charles Prather, all three born about the same time. They are frequently confused. In 1870 Lemuel's son Charles is in his household, a nephew Charles has married and is head of household.
