      ; per van de Pas: [quote] No proof exists but Margaret Crichten is regarded to be the illegitimate daughter of William, 3rd Lord Crichton, by Princess Margaret, a daughter of James II, King of Scots. Before 8 February 1505 she married William Todrig of Edinburgh who died before 21 September 1507. As his widow she married George Halkerston also of Edinburgh. She had at least one son by George Halkerston.

However, she was soon widowed again but before remarrying she became the mistress of Patrick Panter, the king's secretary, and was the mother of David Panter who, later as Bishop of Ross, was legitimated. She married yet again, before 1 April 1517, this time to George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes; by the Earl she is said to have had three sons and two daughters. It was with Margaret's money that the Earl was able to redeem his lands from the Crown. However, George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes, divorced her on 27 December 1520. By 1542 she was still alive and styling herself as Countess of Rothes. [end quote]²
