John Fleming 2nd Lord Fleming died on 1 November 1524.2
; per van de Pas: "His father died circa 1477 and on 2 May 1482 he was served heir to his elder brother, Sir David Fleming, of Monycabo. In 1488 he was amongst the nobles who opposed King James III, seized the king's son and proclaimed him king. When his grandfather died about 1492, it took until 30 June 1500 before he was served his heir and became 2nd Baron Fleming.
Before 5 May 1496 he married Eupheme Drummond, daughter of John, 1st Lord Drummond. However, in May 1502 she was poisoned when she was at her parents' home. She died together with two of her sisters; one of these, Margaret Drummond, was King James IV's mistress and at the time it was rumoured the King intended to marry her. Several years later Margaret Tudor, who by then was the wife of King James IV, blamed John Fleming and spread the story that 'the Lord Fleming, for evil will that he had to his wife, caused to poison three sisters and one of them was his wife and this is known of truth in all Scotland'.
John Fleming was sent to France on several embassies; in 1511 he was vice-admiral of a ship of war, the 'Margaret'. On 26 January 1517 he was appointed Chamberlain of Scotland which he was until he died. In November 1523, with two others, he was appointed guardian of the king. John Fleming, 2nd Lord Fleming, married a second time, to Lady Margaret Stewart, and a third time to Agnes Somerville.
