Thomas Joseph McCoy was born in February 1833 at Sangamon Co., Illinois, USA; Age 16 in 1850 census.3,4 He married Sarah A. Bennington on 15 October 1876 at Sangamon Co., Illinois, USA,
;      N. B.: Possibly, Sarah's 2nd husband and Thomas' 2nd wife, based on the fact that there are three children surnamed BENNINGTON in Thomas and Sarah's household in the 1860 census, and they are termed step daughter and step sons. Therefore, I believe that BENNINGTON was the surname of Sarah's first husband. Since the youngest Bennington child (Mathew) was b ca 1868, Sarah's first husband must have died in or just after 1868. However, Thomas has three children listed who were born before he married Sarah in 1876. I assume that these three children were by an earlier wife of Thomas. This is supported by the 1910 census in which both Thomas and Sarah are reported has haveing been married twice.
