      ;      Two different daughters named Sarah have been attributed by various researchers to John Henry, Sr. and Mary (Hoyle) Whittenberger. One of these, Sarah #1, supposedly married a Rev. James Stallard. Unfortunately, the FAG memorial created for this Sarah states that she was born in 1782 in Germany. It is unlikely that she was born in Germany as John Henry, Sr. married Mary Hoyle in North Carolina ca 1781 and then moved to Blount Co., TN sometime soon thereafter. Even if the proposed birth year of 1782 is wrong, it is unlikely that any child of John Henry Sr.'s was born in Germany.
     The marriage record for Sarah #1, also gives a year of birth of 1782, but no location. It says the 1804 marriage took place in Virginia. Again, this dubious, since her parents were living in Blount Co., TN at this time.
     Interestingly, according to Ancestry.com's DNA ThruLines, I seem to have a DNA match with someone who claims a descent from Sarah #1 and Rev. James Stallard, as well as to someone who claims a descent from Sarah #2 and Col. John Phillips (see attached ThruLines chart). These DNA matches to the modern descendants DO NOT in any way, by themselves, confirm the fact that either Sarah was necessarily a daughter of John Henry, Sr.^2,6

The Carter children are probably the children of John and Sarah's daughter, Nancy Lowe Phillips who m. Robert P. Carter (d.1849). It is now yet known who the two "Jonstone" children are. Mary P. is the newly wed wife of John W. Phillips.
