; "Early Settlers of Old Mount Airy, Wythe County, Virginia", Joseph Rodney Cameron, Sr., Gateway Press, Inc., Baltimore, 1990, pp. 72-73.
59 1 JACOB TOBLER ... was born c. 1730-1735, probably in Switzerland. He was living on Monkey Run in the Kimberling section of Rural Retreat, Virginia, in 1773. In that year, he purchased a track of laud there from a John Crockett. Jacob would later receive large land grants in the area. His land would later loin that of Peter Snavely, Martin Kimberling, and John Reusch. A large part of this land, he sold to Henry Huddle. This track today is known as the Isaac Huddle farm.
Jacob, Sr. wrote his will on September 17, 1817, and the will was probated in Wythe County on December 9. 1817. It is said by WPA papers that Jacob is buried in Kimberling Church cemetery. According to elderly descendants years ago, this is not true. He is buried in a family cemetery on Monkey Run. Ted Parks almost built his house on the cemetery. but he did not know it was there. The cemetery was destroyed about 1913 by the then present land owner.
On September, 23, 1755, in Bethel, Pennsylvania, Jacob
Tobler, Sr., was married by the Rev, John Casper Stoever to Anna
Maria Hough, It is possible that Anna was related to the Hough
who married into the Mozer family. The children of Jacob and
