     A Martha MARSHALL, aged 74 (b c 1836) is listed as "mother-in-law" in a household in 1910. The age matches that of Martha Washington ARNOLD MARSHALL (1836-1920), but I am unable to identify the household she is in.
     Ancestry has transcribed the family name as "GAUSE". The name of the wife in the listing is transcribed as "Edith", aged 43 (born ca 1867). Martha ARNOLD MARSHALL's daughter, Edith Lucy Coleman MARSHALL, was born in 1870, but had died in 1910. She had married a John Markus ROSENBLATT, who was still living in 1910. While the family name in the image is impossible to determine, it is clearly not ROSENBLATT.
     All of the names in this household are nearly impossible to read, at least on Ancestry's copy of the census (see attached copy of the image). The first letter of the surname looks like an "O" or "A" to me, raising the possibility that it is ARNOLD. This implies that Martha might have been living with a younger sibling and the enumerator made an error in calling her "mother-in-law".
     Martha Washington ARNOLD MARSHALL 's daughter, Frances Dickens (MARSHALL), and her husband Claude Porterfield FOX are on the same census page (lines 77-83).
     There is possibly one other clue that I can decipher. The family name of sixth name in the household (line 62) appears to me to end in "...latt". This person is transcribed as "niece", aged 12 (i.e., b ca 1898), born in NC. Martha's daughter Edith (MARSHALL) ROSENBLATT had a daughter Agnes St.John ROSENBLATT who was born in 1898, but in TN.
     The length of time that the head of Household and his Wife were married is transcribed as "2 years". I cannot read the number myself. However, the three daughters subsequently listed range in age from 13 to 20. thus, this seems to be a second marriage for the head of household or his wife, but the wife is recorded as having "0-children-born, 0-children-living), so it must have been Mr. GAUSE(?)'s second marriage and the daughters are his.
     Conclusion: I am persuaded that this person is probably Martha Washington ARNOLD MARSHALL (1836-1920), but not 100% convinced.
