Henry Boehn Slaughter died on 26 October 1865 at Kent Co., Maryland, USA, at age 47; Obituary - Kent News, Oct 28, 1865, p.2
Death of Henry B. Slaughter - It is our painful duty to announce the death of Captain H.B. Slaughter, one of our most valuable and enterprising citizens. He died on the 26th inst. at his residence in this county, near Crumpton, in his 48th year, after an illness of ten days, with typhoid fever. The deceased was a man of the strictest integrity and honor, of warm and generous impulses, and always kind and benevolent to the unfortunate. In his death the church has lost a most worthy and consistent member, the poor a true friend, his family a devoted husband and father, and our community one of its most useful and upright citizens. Mr. Slaughter came into this county from the State of Delaware about twenty two years ago with very limited means, and purchased his late residence, then almost a barren waste, entirely unknown to the business world. By his bold and enterprising mind and habits of industry he has given to this locality a reputation for business and thrift far in advance of any other in this or the adjoining counties. Mr. Slaughter was emphatically a man of progress, fully up to the present age. He was the pioneer on this Shore in canning peaches and other fruits. He organized and owned the line of steamers generally known as "Slaughter's Chester River Line" - one of those steamers (the Chester) was built at his place, under his own supervision and direction. He has run this line for nearly or quite five years, and has so conducted it as to give general satisfaction. Under his management it has proved to be one of the most successful and popular lines ever established on our river. His death must be felt and deplored as a great public loss.
Deaths
At Crumpton, in this county, on the 26th inst., of typhoid fever, HENRY B. SLAUGHTER, in the 48th year of his age. [Friends of the deceased are invited to attend his funeral from his late residence, on this (Saturday) morning at 9 o'clock]

Mrs. J.E. Graham, wife of Dr. J.E. Graham, Chestertown, died at her home in Chestertown on Thursday at 12.30 a.m. Mrs. Graham before marriage was Rachel Slaughter, oldest daughter of the late Henry B. Slaughter and Margaret Ann Clements, of Crumpton. Her father for many years ran a steam boat line from Crumpton to Baltimore. After her marriage she removed to Ingleside, where her husband practiced medicine for many years. In 1908 on account of failing health, Dr. Graham retired from his large country practice and came to Chestertown, where they have since lived. On the 11th of January last Dr. and Mrs. Graham celebrated their golden wedding with all their children and grandchildren with them. Mrs. Graham was an idal [sic] physician's wife, and for fifty years they were all that husband and wife could be to one another. She was a devoted mother and we extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. She is survived by her husband and four sons, Messrs. Edward, of Barclay; Harry of Chestertown; George, of Chicago; and Jessie of Hyattsville; and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Stevens, of Centreville; six grandchildren, two brothers, Henry B., of Chicago; and Joel Slaughter, of Texas; and one sister, Mrs. George W. Smith, of Washington, survive her. Funeral services were held at her late home on Friday at 12 m., conducted by Rev. Mr. Rood, of Ingleside M.E. Church, South, of which church she has been a life-long member. Interment at Sudlersville. The bearers were her four sons, Mr. Fred Stevens and Mr. W.S. Collins. Undertaker W.T. Hicks.1,2
