     The enigmatic Absolom Runyon was born in Garrard County, Kentucky about 1843. His mother died when he was a toddler and he was raised by his father and step-mother who migrated to Dallas County, Texas when he was still a young boy.
     He was the second husband of Margaret Hudson, widow of George Jackson. Absolom's marriage to Margaret is thought to have taken place September 1866 in Johnson County, Tx but no record of their marriage exists there.
     Absolom raised Margaret's two little girls and fathered six more:
      William Asa Runyon
      James Andrew Runyon
      Silas Baxter Runyon (named for his father)
      Etna Florence Runyon
      Samuel Houston Runyon
      Ada Blanche Runyon
     None of his natural-born children had reached their teens before Absolom died (some say in 1878 in Dallas but no proof, or reason for his untimely death, has been found).
     A search of the cemetery in 1998 revealed no marker for Absolom.
     Note: Absolom's middle name may begin with the initial G. (according to military records) but is not "Green" - that is the name of his future grandson's wife's family and the mistake has been perpetuated.

     James P. (Pat) Middleton, prominent Eddy county pioneer, died early today at his home at Lake Avalon. He was 67 years old.
     Middleton had lived here more than 40 years and had been caretaker at Lake Avalon dam the past 18 years. He was well known here.
