He was of Boston and Braintree both before coming to Seekonk, Plymouth Colony, in 1643 and with his three sons-in-law all settled beside each other in the new Plantation which they helped to found and which later became Rehoboth. Medfield, Mass. He was in the first division of land 1643 at Seekonk (later Rehoboth), Mass., and was one of the founders as well as his father-in-law Richard Wright. He is a French Huguenot."
"Genealogy of the Gordon-Macy, Huddleston-Curtis, and Allied Families" by Jessie Gordon Flack and Maybelle Gordon Carman
The notes referred to by the authors - "Bowen, Richard LeBaren, 'Early Rehoboth', four volumes, printed privately at Rehoboth, 1945, III, 113, 'Richard Wright came from England in the first fleet with Gov. John Winthrop as servant to Col. John Humfrey (or Humphreys) bringing with him three daughters and perhaps other children and probably his mother, Margaret. His wife would appear to have been deceased for his daughters in depositions made seventeen years later said that they came with 'their father' with no mention of their mother...For a time Richard Wright and his family remained on the farm at Saugus, later we find him at Boston, then at Braintree and next at Seekonk as one of the organizers of the new township.'
"Richard Wright of Braintree, Alexander Winchester (who had been servant to Mr. Henry Vane), William Cheeseborough and Walter Palmer were the real founders of Seekonk and of these Richard Wright was the dominant man."
"ibid., 119, 1643 - In the first division of home lots at Seekonk, Richard Wright is No. 8 with 834 pounds, the righest man in town; he was to have a twelve acre lot at the northwest end of the ring of the town. His three sons-in-law each had 8 acre lots. Robert Sharpe's and Richard Wright's on the east, William Sabin's on the west and James Clarke's adjoining William Sabin's."
(Elinor Wright married James Clark; Abigail Wright married Robert Sharpe)
"Rehoboth Town Meeting Records, Book I, p. 29 - The same book gives in all ten various grants or acreage in divisions of land at Rehoboth besided 'that Richard Wright built a cornmill and that no other be built in the country..."
"Ibid., III, 121 - Richard Wright was the first 'committee' later caled deputy to be elected to represent Seekonk or Rehoboth, as it was newly named, to the Court at Plymouth....He was admitted a freeman on Oct. 28, 1645."
"Ibid., 130 - William Sabin according to various references ran the mill for his father-in-law but eventually bought the mill from Richard Wright. The signatures of Richard Wright and William Sabin are found affixed to the Rehoboth Compact in 1644. Thirty men signed the document and this is the only signature for many of them."

Patrick Henry's father, he attended King's College of Aberdeen University on scholarship from 1720 to 1724. By 1727 he had settled in Hanover County. He married Sarah Winston Syme. The couple had eleven children together. Two children died at young ages leaving two sons and seven daughters in the family. They moved to Mount Brilliant from Studley about 1748. At one point he established a store for his sons. The store apparently was not a success because of his benevolence, John Henry being a better neighbor than businessman.

Emigrated from Scotland to Virginia before August 1, 1715, when he was a witness to a deed in Henrico Co. Assuming he was over 21 at that time, it is assumed he was born circa 1690. John Syme was appointed by the Governor of Virginia as a surveyor for New Kent Co. in 1717, and for Hanover Co. in 1722. He was elected to the Viginia House of Burgesses from Hanover Co. in 1722, and served for 10 years until his death. He was also elected a vestryman of St. Paul's Parish in Hanover Co. in 1729. Syme was granted and purchased thousands of acres of land in several counties. This included 22,000 acres patented in Hanover Co., including Studley Plantation where he built his home. He is presumed to be buried there. He first married the widow (her name is unknown) of Capt. John Geddes of James City Co., shortly after Geddes died in 1719. Mrs. Geddes-Syme died in 1728 with no children by John Syme. He secondly married Sarah Winston, the daughter of Capt. Isaac Winston, Sr. and Mary Dabney, in 1728. They had one son, John Syme II, before John Syme I died in 1732. Sarah Winston Syme secondly married John Henry in 1733, and their second child was Patrick Henry.

     BIRTH     29 May 1736
     DEATH     6 Jun 1799 (aged 63)
American Patriot. He is best remembered for his stirring phrase "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death." Born in Hanover County, Virginia, he attended public school for only a short time, and was taught by his father, who had a good education. He began a career as a shopkeeper, but was a poor businessman and soon deeply in debt. He then studied law and received his attorney's license in 1760, which helped his oratory skills when he had to argue cases in court. In 1764, Henry was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses, where he soon became a leader of the frontier people against the old, established plantation aristocracy. His speech in the House of Burgesses in 1765 against the Stamp Act is considered one of his greatest orations. In it he argued, "Caesar had his Brutus, Charles the First his Cromwell, and George the Third may profit by their example. If this be treason, make the most of it." In 1774, he was elected a delegate to the First Continental Congress, and the following year, to the Second Continental Congress. He left the Congress before the resolution for independence was put to a vote, to become Commander-in-Chief of Virginia's militia, a position he resigned in February 1776 when he realized his limitations and lack of military experience. A few months later, he became a member of the committee to write the Virginia Constitution. As soon as Virginia eliminated their royal governor and set up a constitution government, Patrick Henry was elected as its first Governor, and moved into the palace in Williamsburg, where the English royal governors had lived. A hard working administrator, Henry worked to solve the many problems caused by the American Revolution. He recruited the state's quota of 6,000 men for the Continental Army, as well as 5,000 men for the Virginia Militia. He obtained and supplied the Continental Army with clothing, shoes, and cattle, as well as lead and gunpowder for ammunition. He was reelected in 1777, 1778, 1784 and 1785. During his second term as Virginia Governor, he supplied the George Rogers Clark Expedition, which conquered the Northwest Territory from the British. In 1788, Henry served in the Virginia delegation to ratify the US Constitution. Although he was initially against ratification of the US Constitution because he believed it lessened the rights of the states, after its ratification, he joined the Federalist Party and supported the document. He was largely responsible for the adoption of the first ten amendments to the Constitution, which we call the Bill of Rights. As public service had left Henry in debt, he returned to his law practice in 1788, and soon became a successful criminal lawyer. In 1794, he retired to his estate near Appomattox, Virginia. In his remaining five years, Henry was offered many public offices, including US Senator, Minister to Spain, Minister to France, Secretary of State in President Washington's cabinet, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, all positions which he refused. In 1796, he was elected Virginia Governor for a sixth time, but refused to take office. Finally, his close friend George Washington convinced him to run for representative in the Virginia State Legislature, and after winning the election, he died before he could take office. Andrew Hay 8th Earl of Erroll died on 8 October 1585 at Slains, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1
;      per van de Pas: "Andrew Hay, 8th Earl of Erroll, was the son of George Hay, 7th Earl of Erroll, and Margaret Robertson.
On 16 June 1552 he was contracted to marry his cousin, Lady Jean Hay, daughter of William Hay, 6th Earl of Erroll, and Lady Helen Stewart. By her had three sons, the eldest and youngest both deaf and dumb but the other very able. After her death, he married Lady Agnes Sinclair, daughter of the ferocious George Sinclair, 4th Earl of Caithness, and Lady Elizabeth Graham, and had more children.
He started giving his second wife blank charters, and the Hays feared he might disinherit his first wife's sons. As a result his own brothers and the Hays of Megginch surprised Slains Castle with scaling ladders by night, captured the Earl and held him prisoner in the dungeon-tower for a month.
King James VI intervened personally, temporarily entrusting the whole Erroll fief to Alexander Hay, Lord Clerk Register. A special Act of Parliament was passed fixing the succession on the Earl's second son, Francis Hay, and the unfortunate Master of Erroll was placed in the custody of the Captain of Edinburgh Castle in 1584, being 'cognosced' insane a dozen years later.
Andrew Hay, 8th Earl of Erroll, died 8 October 1585 at Slains. His second wife, the cause of the family upheaval, was still attractive as a widow and, in 1587, had to be rescued by the Earl of Atholl from 'Mad Colin' Campbell of Glenlyon, who wounded her men and burnt her house at night, carrying her off 'to use her according to his filthy lust and inclination'. However, about 1588, she married Alexander Gordon, of Stradoun."1
