In the name of God Amen I John Matlin of the pish of Cittenburn in the County of Rappahannock being sick & weak in body but of sound & pfect memory doe hereby make & ordain this my Last will and Testamt. in manner & forme ffolowing hereby Revoaking all former wills by me made & this to be my Last will & Testament.

Whereas ARTHUR SPICER of sd County purchased a certaine tract of land of Capt. ARTHUR GRANT of Citty of Bristoll, Mariner, scituate and being in the Freshes of Rappa River and on the North side thereof and abuting and bounding on a Plantation of sd ARTHUR SPICER comonly called and knowne by the name of POPLAR NECK and on the land of JOHN PAYNE and from thence on a Swamp called IRELAND on the sd land of JAMES TRENT and from thence up the head branches of CHARLES BEAVER DAM wch sd land is to the Neighbourhood generally knowne and called by the name of WARRENS LAND and for as much as sd land was by sd GRANT conveyed together with Deeds Patents Pachmts. Wrightings bonds and all other evidences relating thereto and Capt. THO: COOPER (by virtue of a well authenticated Power of Attorney from sd GRANT) was in May in year 1688 duly acknowledged and executed according to the Stat of Enrolment by power authorizing him sd COOPER thereunto and for as much as it is evidently knowne to the Court and Mr. WM. ROBERT BRENT attorney of ABRAHAM SPICER made humble Petition to this Court shewing that JAMES BLAND of this County stood indebted to the Plt in his said Qualification the sum one thousand pounds of Tobacco due per bill under his hand and Seal and the said Bland having absented himself out of this County so that the Plt could not by a Legal course recover his debt the Plt therefore took out an attachment against his said Estate which was served in the hands of RICHARD GIBSON of this County according to Law wherefore the Plt hath exhibited his Petition to this Court and Prays Judgment .. And now forasmuch as Robert Brent in his Qualification as attorney of Arthur Spicer as afsd did by his bill here in Court produced justly make appear his said debt to be due as afsd and Richard Gibson in whose hands the attachment was served did not appear in Court to say anything in Barr or Preclusion of the Premises Therefore tic ordered that Arthur Spicer shall have Judgment by Nil dicit for the said sum against the Estate of James Bland soe attached in the hands of Richard Gibson with costs ,

Peale to be served upon your Petitioner for one thousand pounds of Tobacco in his hands of the Estate of JAMES BLANDE late of this County and when the sheriff served the said attachment your Petr did then tell the sheriff that he had not any of the said Blands Estate in his hands but that the said Blande stood considerably in debt to your Petr but what return the sheriff made your Petitioner is informed that there is not only a Judgment but an Execution against your Petitioners body and now is ready to lay him in Prison when in Truth all accounts debts and Suite of Law was concluded and agreed a considerable time before the date of the said attachment Therefore humbly Prays this worshipful Court to take a review back into these Proceedings and the case considered whereby he may be releived from this oppression.

WHEREAS by Order of their Majestys Justices of the Peace for the said County bearing date the 7th day of July 1692 for a valuable consideration therein mentioned, it was by them agreed that the said JAMES ORCHARD shou'd by good and sufficient Conveyance to him made have conveyed and assured to him all that tract or parcell of land containing by estimation Seventy acres be it more or less whereon the then present COURT HOUSE stood together with all houses, edifices, hereditaments, priviledges and appurtenances thereunto belonging as in and by the said recited Order of Court (put upon the Records of the sd County) relation being thereunto had more fully may appear. THIS INDENTURE made 12th day of December Anno Dom: 1693 Between WM MOTHLEN [Matlin] of the Parish of SITTENBURNE in the County of Richmond, Plantr , of the one part and ARTHUR SPICER of the said Parish and County Gent, of the other part Witnesseth that the said WM' MOTHLEY for a valuable consideration to him in hand paid by the said ARTHUR SPICER path grnted unto the said ARTHUR SPICER his heirs and assignes all that parcell of land containing One hundred acres more or less being in the said Parish of CITTENBURN and County of Richmond, beginning at the first branch of POPLAR NECK CREEK and running thence by the said banch to the first passage over which is that PATH that comes from the Land in the occupation of JOHN DEANE to the House of JOHN CARPENTER, from thence directly over the Head of the CALF PASTURE BRANCH and from thence down to the River of Rappa:, Together with all houses profits and appurtinances to the said One hundred acres of land belonging; To have and to hold all the premises before given and granted and every part thereof unto the said ARTHUR SPICER his heirs and assigns from henceforth forever, Subject nevertheless to the Quitrents which from henceforth shall grow due unto the Cheif Lord of the Premisses and that said WM, MATHLIN for himself his heirs doth promise with the said ARTHUR SPICER his heirs and assigns by these presents in manner following (vizt) That he the said ARTHUR SPICER his heirs or assigns shall hold and enjoy the said One hundred acres of land with all the premisses without the lett or demand of him the said WM: MOTHLEN his heirs or assigns or any persons whatsoever and further the said WM. Witnesseth that the said JAMES ORCHARD for the sum of Twelve thousand pounds of tobacco & Ten pounds Sterling money to him in hand paid hath granted unto the said ARTHUR SPICER his heirs and assigns forever all that the Plantation or Tract of Land now commonly known or called by the name of the NEW COURT ROUSE situate lying and being in the Parish of SITTENBURNE and County of Richmond aforesaid and now in the tenure or occupation of RICHARD HILL, wch: said Plantation contains Three hundred fourty & three acres butting and bounding as followeth (vizt) beginning at a white Oak in the Main Branch of CHONAMUN and extending thence West by NOrth to a Stake in the head of a marshy Branch of the said CHONAMUN near a Chestnut being a corner tree to the Land of Majr. JOHN WEIRE, thence along the said WEIREs line South four degrees forty five minutes East three hundred thirty six poles to a Spanish Oak thats fallen down in the said Line on a Hill side, thence East by South to a small Ash in a branch, thence North West to a Stake between a Sowerwood tree and a Chesnutt, thence East and by South to a white Oak by a Branch of CHONAMUN, thence down said Branch its several courses to the first mentioned white Oak, One hundred twenty four acres of the said Tract being bought and purchased of Mr. FRANCIS GOWRE of the County of Richmond as by the records thereof may appear and the other part of the aforesaid Three hundred fourty three acres granted unto the said JAMES and to his heirs and assigns forever by grant & Conveyance from the PROPRIETOR of the NORTHERN NECK in which sd Grant is contained the aforesaid One hundred twenty and four acres as aforesaid purchased of the said FRANCIS GOWRE deceased, as by the said Grant or Conveyance to the said JAMES ORCHARD more plainly may appear with all its rights and appurtinances together with all houses buildings tobacco houses orchards woods and also all the Estate right of him the said JAMES ORCHARD to the same and all Deeds writings concerning the premisses; To have and to hold the said Plantation and all other the premisses with their rights and appurtinances unto the said ARTHUR SPICER his heirs and assignes forever, And the said JAMES ORCHARD for himself his heirs &c., the sd Plantation & Tract of Land unto the said ARTHUR SPICER his heirs and assigns forever against him the said JAMES ORCHARD his heirs and all other persons whatsoever & will warrant & forever defend by these presents and doth agree with the said ARTHUR SPICER his heirs that they at all times forever hereafter lawfully have & enjoy the sd: Plantation and all the premisses without any lay/full trouble of him the said JAMES his heirs or any other persons whatsoever.      Nancy Vaught married Jacob Catron 26 Nov 1857. Jacob was born about 1823 and died 29 July 1897.
     Nancy applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension in 1907. She stated that Jacob had served as a guard for the Confederacy under Capt. Josiah Brown during the last years of the war.
     From SW VA Enterprise, Wytheville, VA, Dec 29, 1914: Mrs. Nancy Catron passsed away last Wednesday at her home near Lebanon Church at the age of eighty-seven. She had been in declining health for sometime an her death was not unexpected. The deceased is survived by several children. The funeral service was held Friday and the interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery.
     Four of the children: Frances V., Sarah C., Albert V. or N., and Margaret, perhaps others.
