; JAMES OGILVY, of Cardell, who was unjustly disinherited by his f in favour of John Gordon, s of the Earl of Huntly above mentioned. This originated the feud between the Gordons and Ogilvys, which was ended by the outlawry of Ld Huntly and his s and the overthrow of their army in 1562. This defeat was soon followed by the reinstatement of James Ogilvy in the family estates, which was duly ratified by Parliament and confirmed by JAMES VI. MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS had herself acted as overswoman in the decree pronounced by arbiters in 1566. James Ogilvy m 1st, Janet, 3rd dau of Sir Robert Gordon, of Lochinvar. He m 2nd (contract 30 Oct 1558), Marion (d.s.p 13 Feb 1577), sis of 6th Ld Livingstone (see BURKE's Dormant & Extinct Peerages, LINLITHGOW, E). By his first wife he had issue. James Ogilvy d after 19 Feb 1574, and was s by his grandson, SIR WALTER OGILVIE, 1st LORD OGILVIE.1
