John de la Pole 1st Earl of Lincoln (1466/7 cr) died on 16 June 1487 at Battle of Stoke Field, East Stoke, Nottinghamshire, England; dsp.1,3,2
; The title was once again revived, and once again in favour of a close connection of the King, in March 1466/7, when John de la Pole, nephew of EDWARD IV through his mother, was made a peer. He strengthened his ties with EDWARD by marrying the latter's niece through the Queen Consort Elizabeth Woodville. He was even declared in May 1485 by RICHARD III to be his heir, should the new King fail to beget male issue, but the events of that summer put an end to such glittering possibilities when RICHARD was defeated and killed at Bosworth, his nephew and heir apparent the 1st and last Earl of Lincoln of the 1466/7 creation fighting at his side. Unlike his uncle, Lincoln survived. He swiftly made his peace with HENRY VII but the next year went abroad and started agitating on behalf of Lambert Simnel. He was killed at the ensuing Battle of Stoke in 1487, when the Earldom expired. He was in any case posthumously attainted.3
