Richard Eltonhead Gent., of Eltonhead, Lancashire was christened between 6 January 1580 and 1581 at Prescot, Lancashire, England.2 He was born circa 1582 at Elton, Lancashire, England.5,3 He was born in 1582 at Eltonhead, Lancashire, England.6 He married Anne Sutton, daughter of Edward Sutton Gent., of Knowsley, Lancs and Anne Stanley, circa 1607.7,1,8,2,3

; He inherited the manor of Eltonhead on the death of his uncle, Thomas Eltonhead, since his father, William, had predeceased Thomas. He was appointed overseer in the 1609 will of his uncle Thomas. The manor of Elthonhead and other premises in Sutton were held of William, earl of Derby, by the 20th part of a knight's fee and by rent of a pair of gloves. The properties were judged to be worth "per annum clear 4 pounds sterling." Eltonhead consisted of 12 messuages (houses with their surrounding land and buildings), six cottages, a dove house, a windmill, four tofts (main residences with outbuildings and adjacent lands), 20 gardens, 20 orchards, 100 acres of land, 30 acres of meadow, 100 acres of moss, and 13 shillings and four pence rent in Eltonhead and Sutton. Of Richard's eight daughters, five and possibly six eventually emigrated to Virginia or Maryland. Possibly the Cromwellian period of their exodus had made life more difficult. It seems certain that Richard was a royalist, as were the fathers of his daughters' husbands. In 1642 his estates were ordered sold since was a royalist supporter. In 1649 he petitioned regarding his "capital messuage and lands called Eltonhead Hall in Sutton," claiming a deduction of 120 pounds, it being a debt due on a bond to Thomas Barnes, who sued him "to the outlawry" in 1646. In 1652, Richard was required to pay "royalist composition fines" to the treasury. His fine seems to have been comparatively light, but those of many royalists were ruinous.9

Jack R. Corbin diaries state that "Thomas Corbyn and brother Gawen along with a cousin were in business together. Gawen acted as agent, from London, and did most of the Virginia transactions through Henry Corbyn/Corbin now in VA. This was apparently due to Henry's political pull, and also due to the fact that Henry and Gawin getting along much better then Henry and Thomas for the business appeared to have been doing quite well. The diaries did not state that they were enemies in so many words but what there is leads one to believe Thomas and Henry never spoke again after Henry's last trip to England."
After Thomas died, Winifred remarried to Cecil Warbington. The court took charge of his (Thomas 1624) property and lands and granted his custody, wardship and marriage to his mother, with the usual provisions for the care of his estates, his education and regular presentation to the Council of the Court of Wards. Apparently all did not go according to instructions from the court. After an investigation was conducted it revealed Winifred and Cecil Warbington had not only converted the profits of the estate to their own use, but had taken Thomas from the school where he was being educated, and kept him and his brothers from school. The court intervened and maintained all properties for William until he became of age, to include his education. Due to the large inheritance given to Thomas by his father, apparently Henry, Thomas' brother, had a falling-out with him. Several trips made by Henry to England were conducted. It is believed that these trips were to try and influence Thomas and/or Gawin
