"Otto was born about 1248, the son of Hugues 'de Châlons', Count Palatine of Bourgogne, and Adelheid de Meran. By his mother he was a grandson of Beatrix von Hohenstaufen, daughter and heiress of Otto II von Hohenstaufen, Count Palatine of Burgundy. By his father he was descended from another branch of the counts of Burgundy.
"Upon his father's death in 1266, Otto became comte de Châlons. On the death of his mother Adelheid in 1279 he inherited the county of Burgundy. However he was unable to secure real power in the county until the death without progeny of her second husband Philippe de Savoie, count of Savoy, in 1285.
"In 1263 Otto married Philippa de Bar, daughter of Thibaud II, comte de Bar, and Jeanne de Toucy. Their daughter Alix did not have progeny. Philippa died about 1290, and before 1 May 1291 he married Mathilde d'Artois, heiress of Artois, daughter of Robert II, comte d'Artois, and Amicie de Courtenay, heiress of Conches and Méhun-sur-Yèvre. They had four children of whom Blanche and Jeanne would have progeny, both marrying kings of France. Both his son Robert and elder daughter Jeanne would succeed him in the county.
"Otto died in Ornans on 17 March 1302. His titles were inherited by his son Robert, who did not have progeny."4
; Per Wikipedia:
"Otto IV, Count of Burgundy - Otto IV (1248, Ornans – 1302) was the count of the Free County of Burgundy from 1279 until 1302.
"Otto was the son of Hugh of Châlons and Adelaide, Countess Palatine of Burgundy.[1] Upon his father's death in 1266/1267, he became Count of Châlons. His mother, Adelaide, died on March 8, 1279, and Otto inherited her county. However, he was unable to secure real power in the county until 1295.[2] His son and elder daughter Joan II succeeded in the County of Burgundy.
"His wife Mahaut drew up a contract on June 4, 1312 with the famous tomb maker Jean Pepin de Huy to make a tomb.[3] The contract specifies a tomb made of stone and alabaster.[3] Otto was to be shown as an armed knight with a shield, sword and armor.[3] A lion was shown beneath his feet with two angels to support the pillow under his head.[3] This tomb no longer exists today, but the designs were preserved.
Marriage and children
"He married Philippa of Bar in 1271. The marriage was childless.[4]
"He married his second wife, Mahaut of Artois, in 1285.[4] They had three children:
-- Joan (1292/8 - 1330) married Philip V of France[5]
-- Blanche (1296/7 - 1325/6) married Charles of La Marche the future Charles IV of France.[5]
-- Robert (1300 – 1315).

; Per Genealogics: "Marie was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye on 18 September 1344, the sixth child and second daughter of Jean II 'the Good', king of France, and Judith of Bohemia. On 5 October 1364 Marie married Robert I, duc de Bar, seigneur de Cassel, son of Henri IV, comte de Bar, seigneur de Cassel, and Yolande of Flanders. Of their eleven children, Jeanne, Yolande and Henri would have progeny. Marie had an extensive library and obtained works about a variety of topics. The poet-composer _(trouvere)_ Jean d'Arras dedicated his _Roman de Mélusine_ to Marie and expressed the hope it would aid in the political education of her children. Marie died on 15 October 1404, six years before her husband."3
