Eduard (?) Pfalzgraf von Pfalz-Simmern, Herzog von Bayern, Pfalzgraf am Rhein died on 13 March 1663 at Paris, City of Paris, Île-de-France, France, at age 37.1,2
; per Leo van de Pas: "In 1645 he became a Catholic in order to marry Anna Gonzaga, sister of the Queen of Poland and a relation of the French royal family. She was eight years older and had been the mistress of the Prince de Guise; when this affaire ended she had quickly turned to the good-looking prince.
Eduard's Protestant faith had been an obstacle but he quickly converted and they eloped, creating a scandal. Eduard and Anna thought little about his changing his religion, but Eduard's mother, Elizabeth Stuart, 'the Winter Queen' of Bohemia, reacted with horror. In the past she had threatened to strangle any of her children with her own hands if they should change their religion. Although she forgave her son fairly quickly, nevertheless it was political embarrassement to Eduard's brother, the Elector Palatine."1

Ludovico III Gonzaga Marquess of Mantua1

Ludovico III Gonzaga Marquess of Mantua was born on 5 June 1414.1 He married Barbara (?) Markgräfin von Brandenburg, daughter of Johann 'der Alchimist' (?) Markgraf von Brandenburg and Barbara (?) Duchess of Saxe-Wittenberg, on 12 November 1433.2,1
Ludovico III Gonzaga Marquess of Mantua died on 12 June 1478 at age 64.1

; per Leo van de Pas: "Aware that his father preferred his younger brother, Carlo, he ran away in 1436 to enlist in the army of the Duke of Milan who was fighting against Venice. His father was furious as he was the commander of the Venetian forces. Giovanni Francesco then disinherited Lodovico and condemned him to death for treason.
Carlo, the younger brother, was pleased at the prospect of becoming heir to their father, even though many wrote letters of protest to Giovanni Francesco but to no avail. Not even the pleading of his wife and other children could persuade Giovanni Francesco to change his mind, nor Lodovico confessing his errors. What did affect Giovanni Francesco was Vittorino de Feltre's denouncing the father's cruelty to his face. Lodovico was then allowed to return to Mantua and be reinstated as successor.
When Giovanni Francesco died at the age of forty-nine in 1444, Lodovico III became Marquess of Mantua, but not without his younger brother Carlo causing a great deal of harm. Even though he had inherited a considerable part of Mantua, Carlo resented not being its Marquess. He was considered a 'condottiere', a professional soldier, as well as a traitor. He betrayed Milan and Francesco Sforza as well as his brother. However, Lodovico defeated him and Carlo had to flee to Ferrara where two years later he died embittered.
Lodovico ruled in Mantua for thirty-four years, thus becoming an admired Renaissance prince. He remained a 'condottiere', serving Milan and Florence, and became a patron of artists and scholars. Collecting manuscripts, he sponsored a printing press in Mantua. As well, he also enjoyed building besides employing the sculptor Donatello and the painter Andrea Mantegna.
In 1459 Pope Pius II called the European princes to Mantua. Here he hoped to inspire a crusade against the Turks who had recently conquered Constantinople. Pius II brought with him twenty-six cardinals with each having between ninety to three-hundred horsemen. Nevertheless, the congress was a failure.
However, Lodovico III also took after his father in regards to his children. Happily married to a German princess, he was about to arrange another for his son Federigo. When Federigo refused, he was threatened with imprisonment and so fled. On his way he was not only robbed but became sick from dysentery. Having no money for their livelihood, his servants changed their names and did rough work and, with the little money they earned, looked after Federigo.
His mother had sent servants to different countries to find him; but when not one succeeded in finding either her son or his servants, she feared he was dead. However, one of the servants went to the King of Naples giving a full description of Federigo's servants, after which they were found. The king then brought the ill Federigo to his palace where he was to be nursed by his own doctor.
Upon hearing the news, Federigo's mother told Lodovico III what had happened to their son and, grudgingly, Federigo was allowed to return home. As Federigo had then to submit to the German marriage, from then onwards he remained on the best of terms with his father. At the age of sixty-five Lodovico III died at his villa of Goito."1
