"ERNST von Braunschweig-Göttingen ([1305]-13 Jul 1366, bur Göttingen St Paul). He succeeded his father in 1318 as ERNST I joint Herzog von Braunschweig in Braunschweig und Göttingen, jointly with his two brothers. “Otto dux in Bruneswich necnon Magnus et Ernestus fratres eius” donated property to Hildesheim by charter dated 1 Jul 1321[324]. Canon at Halberstadt and Hildesheim cathedrals 1328/29. “Ernest broder Hertogen Otten tho Brun dom here der stichte to Halb un to Hilden” acted as guarantor for “unse...broder hertoge Hinr dom here to Hilden”, concerning a dispute involving Schloß Wohldenberg, by charter dated 6 Nov 1329[325]. “Ernest Hertoghe to Bruneswik unde...Alheyd use...husvrouwe” granted “dat hus to Osterrode” to “useme...brodere hertoghen Henrike...mit user suster...Helwighe” by charter dated 2 Mar 1340[326]. After the death of their older brother Otto, Ernst and his older brother Magnus agreed on a partition of their territories, Ernst becoming Herzog von Braunschweig in Göttingen 1345.
[m firstly ([after 1325]) BARBARA [Adelheid?] von Sagen, daughter of [HEINRICH II Duke of Glogau and Sagan & his wife Mathilde von Brandenburg] (after [1310/12]-[before 1340]). Botho’s Chronicon Brunsvicensium Picturatum records that “Hertoghe Ernest, Hertoghen Albrechtes sone to Brunswick, ein Hertoghe...to Gotting” married “des Hertoghen dochter van dem Sagen...Barbara”[327]. This marriage has not been corroborated in any earlier primary source and the accuracy of the information is unknown. The entry is included in the Chronicon under the general heading “1319”. That date would be early for this marriage, but Botho does not consistently record events chronologically. If the marriage is correct, the chronology of the Sagan family suggests that Barbara would have been the daughter of Duke Heinrich II. Botho’s Chronicon is not consistently reliable: indeed the following entry in the text, recording the marriage of Heinrich [II] Herzog von Braunschweig-Grubenhagen, misidentifies his wife’s father. However, in the absence of other data, the marriage cannot be dismissed entirely as a possibility especially as the estimated date of Ernst’s known marriage to Adelheid is late for a first marriage considering his estimated birth date. Another possibility is that “Barbara” (a name otherwise unknown in the Silesian ducal families before the late 14th/early 15th century) in the Chronica was an error for “Adelheid” and that Ernst’s supposed first and second wives were in fact the same person.]
"m [secondly] ([1335/2 Mar 1340]) ADELHEID, daughter of --- (-[1341/42?]). “Ernest Hertoghe to Bruneswik unde...Alheyd use...husvrouwe” granted “dat hus to Osterrode” to “useme...brodere hertoghen Henrike...mit user suster...Helwighe” by charter dated 2 Mar 1340[328]. One possibility is that “Alheyd” in this document was an error and that Ernst’s supposed second and third wives were in fact the same person.
"m [thirdly] (before Jul 1342, Papal dispensation 3 Jul 1342/10 Aug 1342) ELISABETH von Hessen, daughter of HEINRICH II "der Eiserne" Landgraf Herr von Hessen & his wife Elisabeth von Meissen (-7 Mar 1390, bur Göttingen Franciskanerkirche, transferred 1821 to Hannover). Ludwig Bishop of Münster issued a [retrospective] Papal dispensation for “Ernesti nati quondam...Alberti ducis in Brunswich” and “Elizabet nate...Henrici lantgravii domini terre Hassie” who married not knowing of their 4o consanguinity and affinity, by charter dated 3 Jul 1342, issued 10 Aug 1342[329]."

; Per Genealogics:
"Ernst, Herzog von Braunschweig-Göttingen, was born about 1305, the son of Albrecht II 'the Fat', Herzog von Braunschweig-Göttingen, and Richsa von Werle. After Albrecht's death in 1318, Ernst's elder brother Otto 'der Milde' became sole ruler. When Otto died childless in 1344, Ernst and his brother Magnus I 'the Pious' shared the rule of the duchy, but on 17 April 1345 they agreed to divide it. Ernst received the lands of Göttingen, also called Oberwald, the poorest of the Welf principalities. It was made up of the former Northeim possessions, the towns of Göttingen, Uslar, Dransfeld, Münden, Gieselwerder and half of Moringen. The city of Braunschweig remained in the possession of the entire house.
"In 1339 Ernst married Elisabeth von Hessen, daughter of Heinrich II 'der Eiserne', Landgraf von Hessen, and Elisabeth, Markgräfin von Meissen, Landgräfin von Thüringen. Of six known children, the eldest son Otto and two daughters, Adelheid and Agnes, would have progeny. Little is known about Ernst's rule, in contrast to that of his son, but it is presumed that, like his predecessor, he fought together with the cities against the robber knights who owned castles in the Göttingen lands. In his later years he lived in peace with most of his neighbours and was allied with many of them. However in 1364 he was at war, along with his allies Mainz, Hessen, Waldeck and Hohnstein, with the bishopric of Hildesheim.
"Around 1364 Ernst shared the rule over the duchy with his son Otto. After Ernst's death on 24 April 1367, Otto succeeded him as sole ruler."8 He was Duke of Braunschweig-Göttingen between 1345 and 1366.1,3

Adelais/Adelaide (?) was born between 908 and 916.2 She married Raoul I de Gouy Count of Ostrevant, Amiens & Valois, son of Hucbald (?) Comte d'Ostrevant et de Senlis and Heilwig (?) of Friuli, between 920 and 924.4,2

; NB: There seems to be some disagreement regarding Raoul I's wife.
Weis [1992:223] says Raoul I m. "Eldegarde, (dau. or niece of Ermenfroi, Count of Amiens ?, prob. a Carolingian princess), who m. (2) Waleran, a count...)"
Burke's agrees that Raoul I's wife was named Eldegarde.
Racines et Histoire says that Raoul I's wife was "Hildegarde d’Amiens (fille d’Ermenfroi, comte d’Amiens)," probably the same person as indicated by Weis and Burke's.
However, Med Lands says that the name of Raoul I's wife is uncertaint that then shows that she may have been an "Aalais" or "Adelais", possibly dau. of Charles III "le Simple". Med Lands furthermore shows that it was "Liegardis", the wife of Raoul I's son, Raoul II, who m. 2) "Galeran Comte de Meulan."
I have chosen to follow the lineage of Adelaiis, as laid out by Med Lands. GA Vaut.2,4,5,6,7,8

; Per Med Lands:
"ADELAIS ([908/16]-). The Genealogica Arnulfi Comitis names (in order) "Hyrmintrudim, Frederunam, Adelheidim, Gislam, Rotrudim et Hildegardim" as the children of "Karolus rex…ex Frederuna regina"[357]. The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines records that "comes Rodulfus" (referring to Raoul [II]) was "nepos…ex sorore" of Louis IV King of France[358]. It appears chronologically unlikely for any of King Louis's sisters, whose dates of birth can be estimated to [908/17], to have been the mother of Raoul [II] who was killed in battle in 944, presumably when he was already adult. It appears more likely that the family relationship was one generation further back, and that a member of the Unruochingi family, descended from the sister of Charles II "le Chauve" King of the West Franks and who originated in the same area in northern France, would provide a good match. Nevertheless, the earlier primary source on which Alberic based his information has not yet been identified and it is possible that the source is inaccurate in its report. However, the poem Raoul de Cambrai states that "Raoul Taillefer" married "Aalais", sister of King Louis IV[359] which, if correct, would mean that his wife could be identified with Adelais, daughter of Charles III "le Simple" King of the West Franks by his first marriage. This would mean that Raoul [II] was an infant when his father died. It would also mean that Raoul [I] and his wife were closely related, as the Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines also implies that Raoul's mother was the daughter of Adelais's paternal great aunt Gisela who married Eberhard, ancestor of the Marchesi of Friulia. The poem Raoul de Cambrai cannot claim to be historically accurate. Nevertheless, it is not impossible that the detail of Raoul's marriage was not fabricated.

; Per Wikipedia:
"Fulco I d’Este (died December 15 1128)[1][2] was the ancestor of the Italian line of the House of Este.
Life
"Fulco was a son of Albert Azzo II, Margrave of Milan and Garsende of Maine, the daughter of Herbert I, Count of Maine. After his father's death in 1097, Fulco inherited the family's Italian possessions, which lay mainly in Veneto, around Mantua, Padua, Treviso and Verona, while his older half brother Welf inherited the lands north of the Alps. However, Welf did not accept this division, and unsuccessfully attempted to take these lands from Fulco after their father's death in 1097. The powerful Bavarian line of the family, the Guelphs, did not renounce these lands until the time of Henry the Lion in 1154. In 1070 Fulco's brother Hugh was invited to become Count of Maine, taking over the lands of their maternal grandfather, which had been under Norman or Angevin control since 1051, but had broken free.
"Fulco's family took their name from the town of Este in Veneto. Fulco made the family's first connections to the nobility of Ferrara, which the Este came to rule a century later.
Family
     "Fulco had six children:
** Azzo IV d'Este (died before 1145)
** Bonifacio I d’Este (died 1163)
** Fulco II d'Este (died before 1172)
** Alberto (died after 1184)
** Obizzo I d’Este (died December 25 1193), grandfather of Azzo VI of Este
** Beatrice (1075-1110) (possibly married in 1108 Alfonso VI of León and Castile).
