Rotger/Roger (?) Comte de Maine was born circa 855.4 He married Rothilde (?) of Neustria, Princess of France, Countess of Bourges & of Maine, daughter of Charles II "The Bald" (?) King of West Franks, King of Aquitaine, Holy Roman Emperor and Richilde (Richaut) (?) d'Ardennes, Queen of the West Franks, in 890.1,5,3,6,4

Rotger/Roger (?) Comte de Maine died before 31 October 900; per The Henry Project: "He was undoubtedly deceased on that date, when his son Hugues, count of Maine, appears with his mother in an act of Charles the Simple. See the page of Hugues I for further details."1,7,4
Rotger/Roger (?) Comte de Maine was buried before 31 October 900 at Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen, Rouen, Departement de la Seine-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, France; From Find A Grave:
     BIRTH          844, France
DEATH     901 (aged 56–57), Rouen, Departement de la Seine-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, France
Count of Maine from 886 to 893 and then 895 to 900. He is the founder of the second home of Maine, sometimes called Hugonide.
His family is not known by contemporary documents. Recent research has proposed several hypotheses. On onomastic considerations, it could be a descendant of the Counts Robertians Le Mans the eighth century. If that were the case it would be from the same strain as the rival family of rorgonides, whom he disputed the county of Maine.
Christian Settipani identifies a Count Roger who intervened in 892 to help his uncle Hugh, Earl of Bourges and Hugues considers that this is a maternal uncle. The presence of the names of Hugh and Roger is comparable the counts of Laon, and it could be a brother Hugh, Earl of Bassigny, and uncle Roger I, Count of Laon.
Roger was married to Rothilde, daughter of Charles the Bald, and was therefore close to the royal family. In 885, Ragenold, Marquis of Neustria and Count of Maine was killed by the Normans. At this time, the Rorgonides were represented only by teenagers, and King Charles the Fat preferred to entrust the running of Neustria to one of his followers, the popponien Henri and the Maine County to Roger.
Consequently, Rorgonides approached the Robertians and after that Eudes became king of France, Roger was driven from Le Mans in 893 and replaced by Gauzlin II. He said the county 895, but showed particularly violent towards his subjects and the Church, so that the bishop of Le Mans complained. He died soon after.

; Per Genealogics:
“Rotger was count of Maine from 886 to 900. He is the founder of the second house in Maine, sometimes referred to as the Hugonides. His family is not known from contemporary documents, and recent studies have proposed several hypotheses. The genealogist Christian Settipani identifies him with a Count Rotger who intervened in 892 to help his uncle Hugues, comte de Bourges, and considers this Hugues to have been Rotger's maternal uncle.
“Rotger was married to Rothilde de France, daughter of Emperor Charles 'the Bald', and he was thus close to the royal family. He and Rothilde had a son Hugues I who would have progeny, and a daughter Judith who married Hugues 'the Great', duke of The Franks, comte de Paris, but did not have progeny. They may also have had a daughter Rothilde who was abbess of Bouxières-aux-Dames from 937 to 965.
“In 885 Ragenold, marquis of Neustria and count of Maine, was killed by the Normans. At this time the Rorgonides, the family descending from Rorgon or Rorico, comte de Rennes et Maine, were represented by teenagers, and Emperor Charles III 'the Fat' preferred to confer the march of Neustria on one of his followers, Heinrich of the family of Popponides, and the county of Maine on Rotger.
“The Rorgonides reconciled with the Robertians and Robert's brother Eudes became king of France, succeeding Charles 'the Fat'. Rotger was expelled from Le Mans in 893 and replaced by Gauzlin II of the Rorgonides, son of Gauzfrid and cousin of Ragenold.
“Rotger reclaimed the county in 895, but was particularly violent towards his subjects and the Church, leading to protests by the bishop of Le Mans. He died shortly thereafter before October 900.”.4 GAV-30.

      ; Per Med Lands:
"ODILO, son of --- (-18 Jan 748, bur Hostenhoven, Kloster Gengenbach). The parentage of Odilo is not known. Einhard names "Swannhilde neptem Odilonis ducis Baioariorum" as the mother of Grifo[87]. The Continuator of Fredegar names "matrona quondam…Beletrude et nepta sua Sunnichilde"[88]. Reading these two sources together, the impression is that Odilo may have been a brother of Dukes Grimoald and Theodald. However, as shown above, all sources so far identified only name the latter two as the sons of Duke Theodo. It is assumed that Odilo was not the brother or son of Duke Hugobert, whom he succeeded, as such a relationship is not mentioned in any of the contemporary sources so far identified. It appears more likely that Odilo was related more remotely to his predecessors, but the precise relationship can only be guessed at. He succeeded in 739 as ODILO Duke of Bavaria. The Salzburg Annals record that Odilo succeeded as Duke of Bavaria in 739 following the death of "Hucbertus dux Bawarie"[89]. The Annales Ducum Bavariæ also record that "Oudilo dux" succeeded "Hucpertus dux"[90]. He married his wife without the permission of her brothers[91]. His brother-in-law Carloman invaded Bavaria, and Odilo was forced to recognise Frankish suzerainty in 744. The Annales Metenses record the death in 749 of "dux Odilo"[92]. The necrology of Regensburg St Emmeram records the death "XV Kal Feb" of "Otilo dux"[93].
"m (741) CHILTRUDIS [Hiltrude], daughter of CHARLES "Martel" maiordomus of Austrasia and Neustria [Carolingian] & his first wife Chrothrudis --- (-754, bur Hostenhoven, Kloster Gengenbach). The Continuator of Fredegar names "Chiltrudis" as daughter of Charles "Martel", stating that her "wicked stepmother" incited her to joined Odilo of Bavaria whom she married without the permission of her brothers[94]. After the death of her husband, she was captured by Grifo who usurped the throne from her son[95]. After her son was restored, Hiltrude became regent in Bavaria during his minority."

GAV-35. Hugobert (?) Seneschal, Pfalzgraf was also known as Chugoberctus (?)2 Hugobert (?) Seneschal, Pfalzgraf was also known as Hociobercthus (?)2

; Per Wikipedia:
"Hugobert (also Chugoberctus or Hociobercthus) (died probably in 697) was a seneschal and a count of the palace at the Merovingian court during the reigns of Theuderic III and Childebert III. He was a grandson of the dux Theotar, and it is assumed, but not proven, that his father was Chugus, who in 617 became mayor of the palace of Austrasia. The juxtaposition of names in the Vita Landiberto episcopi Traiectensis may imply a relationship between him and the family of Saint Lambert (see below).
"It has been disproven that he is one and the same with bishop Hugobert of Liège, because his wife appears in the records of Echternach in the year 698 as a widow. He was married to Irmina of Oeren, who, shortly after his death, made possible the founding of the Abbey of Echternach. Irmina was sister to Adela of Pfalzel, founder of the convent Pfalzel, who is frequently confused with her daughter of the same name. He last appears in a royal charter dated 14 March 697.
Marriage and Family
"Hugobert and Irmina had several daughters, including:
** Plectrude, 691/717 witnessed, the first wife of Pippin of Herstal and founder of the Abbey St. Maria im Kapitol in Cologne
** Adela (655-732), abbess of Pfalzel, married to Eudes I, Duke of Aquitaine (questionable Odo the Great and son of Saint Oda)
** Regintrud, whose second marriage after the death of her husband was to the duke Theudebert of Bavaria
** Irmina (d. ca 704), married to Chariveus, brother of Lambert, Count of Hesbaye.

"Other children sometimes attributed by genealogists to Hugobert and Irmina include:
** Chrodelinda, who was likely the daughter of Irmina and Chiriveus. She married Wido, Abbot of Saint Wandrile. Their son Warnhar was Count of Horbach and was the patriarch of the Widonids.
** Bertrada of Prüm (b. c. 670, d. after 721), the founder of the Prüm Abbey and mother of count Caribert of Laon, who was father of Bertrada of Laon, who in turn was mother of Charlemagne.

Relationships with Frankish Nobility
"Hugobert has been speculated by genealogists to have been ancestor of a number of powerful families of the Frankish nobility, including the Etichonids, Agilofings, Widonids, Carolingians and Robertians/Capetians, as well as the family of William of Gellone. All of these connections are speculative in nature.

"Irmina of Oeren or Irmina of Trier (d. 704/710) was the wife of Hugobert, seneschal and Count palatine, a leading person of the Hugobertine noble family. While during the High Middle Ages she was believed to be a daughter of King Dagobert II, her parents are actually unknown.[1] Today it is assumed that she came from a powerful Austrasian noble family, strongly connected to the Carolingian dynasty.
"Irmina and Hugobert had several children, including:
** Plectrude (fl. 691, d. 717), the wife of Pippin of Herstal and founder of the Abbey St. Maria im Kapitol in Cologne
** possibly Adela of Pfalzel (b. c. 660, d. c. 735) founder of the convent Pfalzel (some have said she is the sister or Irmina of Oeren)
** possibly Reginlind, (b. 660-665, d. 730-740) whose second marriage after the death of her husband was to the duke Theudebert of Bavaria

** possibly Bertrada of Prüm (b. c. 670, d. after 721), the founder of the Prüm Abbey and mother of count Heribert of Laon, who was father of Bertrada of Laon, who in turn was mother of Charlemagne.

"After Hugobert's death, the widowed Irmina founded, with support from the Bishop of Trier, the Abbey of Echternach by donating (c. 697/698) lands to Willibrord. She also committed herself to a religious life for the remaining years and became second abbess of St. Mary's convent in Oeren (today a part of Trier) which was later renamed after her: St. Irmina (or St. Irminen). Irmina died at an uncertain date between 704 and 710.

     BIRTH     961
     DEATH     16 Sep 984 (aged 22–23)
Roman Catholic Saint. Born at Kent, England, the illegitimate daughter of Eadgar, King of England and the nun, Wulfrith whom he was said to have abducted and seduced. When her mother was allowed to return to her abbey, she took Edith with her, and she was raised in Wilton Abbey. In her early teens she took her vows and also became a nun there. Her father was said to have offered her three abbacies, but she remained at Wilton serving as abbess there. She was said to have refused all royal honors and secular power, but was reputed to have dressed royally nonetheless. She had built a church at Wilton, dedicated to Saint Denis. She died shortly after its dedication at about age 23. She is listed on the calendar of saints as Edith of Wilton, but she has also been called Eadgyth or Ediva. Bio by: Iola
